We are staying five nights, four days, in Las Vegas. We have booked a relatively cheap hotel (Harrahs) because we cannot afford the real big ones. But now i realized that the major swimming pools like Mandalay bay and the MGM pool are only for there guest. I was hoping that those pools were open for public with a admission ticket... (and free for guests). I have search the Internet extensively on 'swimming pools', but without clear results. So i'm hoping someone can shine a little light on this topic: are there nice swimming pools open for public in Las Vegas? I came across Tao Beach, but i didn't find any information about if it's open for public or only for there guests?

This year I believe it is changed to a guest at any of the CET hotels (including Harrahs) will be allowed to use the pools. Hopefully someone can verify this, as I don't stay at CET hotels. Those pools are so expensive so please look into it before you go in.....I went to Tao pool and it was over $100 pp, and the music so loud you could not think.... Do you have the option of switching to an affordable hotel with a good pool?

Depending on the rates you got for Harrah's, you might be able to find similar rates at many of the other hotels with decent pools. Caesars' website says "Thursday – Sunday there is a $20 entry fee for men to the Garden of the Gods Pool Oasis. There is no fee for women, any Caesars Palace hotel guest, or Seven Stars guest." That's probably your best bet - just across the street with a huge, nice pool complex. I would guess you could get rooms at MGM Grand for about the same price as Harrahs. In particular Las Vegas Advisor. They have a number of codes for MGM Grand and that will get you access to their pools. You're kinda thinking along the lines of a public city pool, rather than an amentity for hotel guests (one wouldn't order room service from the Bellagio if they were staying at Ballys!). Every hotel has a pool, including Harrahs. If you want a pool area that you can relax by and jump in to cool off, you already will have that there. For the most part, assume that one needs to stay at a hotel to use the pool.

Realize that those nice pools you want are pricey to build and maintain, which is reflected in the cost of the hotel rooms! Those swimming pools are TOTALLY different then those in the Netherlands. In most pools in Vegas you CAN'T swim at all. Friends staying at The Bellagio had to show their room key before being given access, not so at The Tropicana, there was nothing to show that any of the people there using the pool were hotel guests at all.
