From long driving vacations, to shorter weekend road trips, to hauling the kids to and from sports practice or the movies, your car can get messy and filthy in no time at all.I'll admit it-- I am pretty good at ignoring a dirty car. But sometimes you’ve just got to tackle that chore. Running the car through a car wash or giving it a quick bubble bath at home takes care of the exterior dirt, butcleaning the interior mess is another story.Here are 9 tips that will help make this job easier than you think--and 4 more tips for keeping your car in clean condition:.Clear Out the TrashIt’s quite amazing how quickly wrappers, napkins, papers and UFO’s (unidentified forgotten objects) accumulate in a vehicle.

The first order of business when cleaning the car is to take out the trash. You will probably find pens, money, maybe even that lost cell phone, or your kid's retainer! Vehicles seem to “consume” items in every corner and crack. Take the time to clean out everything.Vacuum ThoroughlyUsing a shop vac or an attachment on your household vacuum, clean every nook and cranny of your car. You’ll want to thoroughly vacuum all the carpeted floor areas. If you’ve got floor mats, remove them and clean them outside of the vehicle, for an extra-thorough cleaning.  Use a soft brush attachment to clean the dashboard, doors, and any other hard surface areas. These places can get pretty dusty.Shampoo the Carpets and UpholsteryThis may seem like overkill, but remember how many times a sticky drink or messy sandwich has been dropped on the carpet? Nasty odors and germs are lurking in those carpets, so at least once a year, give them a good scrubbing. You can use your own carpet cleaning machine, rent one, or combine a can of carpet cleaner, a scrub brush, and some elbow grease.

Don’t forget to clean those floor mats, too. If you have upholstered seats in the car, shampoo those as well. Allow it to sit for a few minutes. Then, wipe dry with a piece of newspaper. You'll be left with perfect, streak-free windows. What You Need:White vinegarWaterA spray bottleA sponge or cleaning ragMix together equal parts white vinegar and water.

Then, spray it on your wheels; and work it in with a sponge or cleaning rag. Give it a few minutes to go to work on all that break dust and other grime. Then, rinse it off. If dirt remains, repeat the process.Note: Vinegar should not be used on aluminum alloys. What You Need:Baking sodaWaterA scrub brushMix baking soda and water together to form a paste. Then, work the paste into the tires with a scrub brush. Let it sit for several minutes. What You Need:White vinegarBaking SodaA scrub brushMix white vinegar and baking soda together to form a paste. Then, work the paste into any carpet and upholstery stains with a toothbrush or something similar. Allow the paste to dry. Then, vacuum up the baking soda, and the stains should be gone.Note: Some stains may need to be treated more than once.These laundry stain removers may prove helpful in removing it. What You Need:White vinegarWaterA spray bottleA cleaning ragMix together equal parts white vinegar and water. Then, spray it on any vinyl, plastic or wood surfaces in your car that need cleaning.

Allow it to soak in. Then, wipe dry with a clean rag. What You Need:1 cup mineral oilA spray bottle or bowl2 cleaning ragsPut the mineral oil in a spray bottle or bowl. Then, use a clean cloth to wipe a small amount of the dressing into the dashboard and any other plastic, wood or vinyl surfaces. Finish by wiping off the excess with another cleaning rag.Warning: Do not use on the steering wheel, pedals or any other controls where slipperiness could pose a hazard. Also be careful not to get in on your windows.Sponge the spot with cool water or soak for about 30 minutes in a basin of cool water.2. Pretreat with a prewash stain remover.3. If it's safe for the fabric, add chlorine bleach to the wash.Blot up as much of the spilled wine as possible.2. Mix one tablespoon of liquid hand dishwashing detergent with two cups of cool water.3.
