3.   Use just enough pre-spray; too much pre-spray requires more moisture to remove the chemical from the carpets 4.   After pre-spraying the carpets, turn on any available ceiling fans 5.   Open windows and turn on ventilating systems while carpet cleaning 6.   Turn up the machine’s p.s.i. as high as safely possible to provide maximum water lift/moisture removal 7.   Perform two or more dry strokes for every wet stroke 8.   Use as little vacuum hose as possible and make sure it does not coil, causing restrictions 9.   Install air movers at strategic locations around the just cleaned area 10. Again, you'll need to check underneath the carpet to make sure that the floor and carpet padding are not still sopping wet. Move furniture off the wet carpet. You want to do this so that you can lift up the carpet and check the pad and the floor underneath. It's important to remove the furniture as quickly as possible so that you can get started on the carpet. Leaving the furniture on the wet carpeting can damage both the furniture and the flooring. Remove as much of the water as possible. You probably won't be able to take up the entire floor, but you are going to have to check beneath the carpet, so keep that in mind. There are several different ways that you can get rid of the water. Rent a vacuum capable of removing water. Do not use a regular house vacuum, because a regular house vacuum can't handle vacuuming up water. Vacuum until you get no more water. Alternately you could rent a hot water extraction unit. The hot air will cause the carpet to float over the pad and speed up the drying process. Call in the professionals.
